BAY CITY, MI — An annual event that draws duck hunting enthusiasts to the Saginaw Bay is returning for 2022.

Bay City State Park will host the annual Saginaw Bay Waterfowl Festival on Saturday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 7. The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival will feature duck and goose calling competitions on both days. Saturday’s competition schedule includes open team duck calling at 10 a.m., open meat duck calling at 1 p.m., Michigan duck calling at 2:30 p.m., and Great Lakes regional duck calling at 4 p.m. On Sunday, junior duck calling will take place at 10 a.m. and junior goose calling will take place at 11 a.m. with a Michigan state open goose calling competition to take place at 1 p.m.

In addition to the calling competitions, there will be calling clinics for those interested in learning the skill, plus a variety of waterfowl-themed activities and exhibits, including dog trials, canoe races, and gear crafting. A duck hunter and outdoor recreation expo will take place both days of the event for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to check out and explore new types of gear and other offerings from a multitude of vendors.

On Saturday and Sunday, activities such as wood duck box building, T-shirt designing and leather bracelet weaving will be offered. Attendees can also enjoy soap carving with the Tri-City Carvers Club from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday only.

Frank’s Great Outdoors is hosting an adult/youth canoe race at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and the “Quack-athlon” canoe race from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Dog fun hunt trials are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

While wild duck isn’t on the menu for the event, there will be multiple food trucks and vendors offering up different options. The food vendor lineup includes Shakey’s On The Road Grill & Catering, Kretzschy’s Smokey BBQ, Cottage Inn & Pizza, and What’s Poppin Kettle Corn.
