Finding treats your pet loves might be a daunting endeavor, but a local business is looking to crack the case.

Sophie Kinkade is the owner of Dr. Watson’s Bakery, a new business focusing on delicious treats for cats and dogs alike using high-quality ingredients. Although the business’ name and some of its items might reference Sherlock Holmes, there is no mystery about how much love and care is poured into its carefully crafted recipes.

“I’ve been working with animals my whole life and love creating treats. Even if I go to other jobs, I always end up coming back to this,” said Kinkade of her decision to start her own business. “I was tired of jumping around from place to place, I wanted to make something I could stay at.”

Dr. Watson’s Bakery offers staple treats ranging from jerky and biscuits to pastes in squeeze bottles called “Sherlock’s Delight” that come in salmon and chicken flavors for cats. Kinkade reports that the jerky and peanut butter calming biscuits rank among her best sellers.

“I can’t seem to make enough jerky no matter how much I make,” Kinkade said. “It always sells out very fast.”

Alongside quality ingredients, Kinkade looks to cater to the needs of her clients. If they require treats with various dietary sensitivities in mind, she is happy to accommodate them. She is constantly working to refresh her menu, with recent additions including a “pup-kin pie” cup and dog beer made from bone broth and molasses just in time for fall.

“The ingredients I use set my products apart from competitors. If I can source it local, I do, and I am always transparent about what is in my products so buyers can be informed. All of my recipes have their ingredients listed,” Kinkade explained of her process. “I’m incredibly picky about what goes into my treats. I only use things that are fit for human consumption. I find a lot of my ingredients at Four Corners in Morrison, but I am always looking to start new partnerships with local businesses.”

Kinkade presently attends markets and operates out of her home, but has plans to expand to a brick and mortar location through a partnership with Tara Gibson of Sudz with Luv Grooming once the facility completes renovations.

Currently, Dr. Watson’s Bakery sets up every Saturday at the Farmers Market and some of its items can also be found at The Vanilla Bean Baking Co. Kinkade can be reached on the Dr. Watson’s Bakery Facebook page or by phone at (615) 956-9533 to inquire about custom orders.
